Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems confirmed and awarded Default's first single "Wasting My Time" a SPIN AWARD for reaching the 600,000 lifetime spins mark this past December.

"Wasting My Time" was Default's first single in 2002 from their debut album The Fallout. They just released the single "Turn It On" from their latest release Comes And Goes to Active Rock.

Mega-platinum rockers Nickelback nabbed a nod in the Best Hard Rock Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals) category for their sizzling track “Burn It To the Ground,” from their latest release Dark Horse. RED received its second career nomination in the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album category for its sophomore Innocence & Instinct which released Feb 10, 2009.

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on “GRAMMY Sunday,” Jan. 31, 2010, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and once again will be broadcast live in high definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

Nickelback Donates $500K To Support The Obakki Foundation

Founder and Obakki Designs Inc. owner Treana Peake launched the first awareness building and fundraising campaign for the newly created Obakki Foundation this week. The creative and moving campaign began with Peake, a philanthropist, entrepreneur and wife of Nickelback guitarist Ryan Peake, who gave 150 children at three orphanages in Cameroon, Africa a piece of paper and a pen and asked: What Makes You Happy? What Makes You Afraid? What Makes You Sad? Their answers can now be found on a series of fashion items that will be available for purchase at www.obakki.com in early 2010.

“I have always been involved in charitable causes, even when I could only afford to donate my time, ” said Treana Peake. “I am so grateful to now have a platform for people to come together and, through small actions, create big results. We are excited about the impact that the Obakki Foundation will have on these children in Africa.”

The Obakki Foundation partners with organizations around the world that seek to empower individuals, groups and communities, at a grassroots level, to make a positive change. 100% of all donations made go directly back to the projects being supported by the Obakki Foundation. International superstars Nickelback recently became one of the first major contributors to the Obakki Foundation donating $1 of every ticket sale from their sold out summer tour, resulting in a total contribution of $500K.

“Through the support of our fans, our music has given us an amazing opportunity to step up and contribute,” said Ryan Peake. “We will be traveling to Africa this weekend and I really looking forward to getting into these villages and communities to see where we make the largest impact. We are going to be reporting back with our experiences for anyone who is interested in seeing a few people trying to make positive change.”

With an active role, Treana Peake personally visits all project locations supported by the Obakki Foundation. All travel and accommodation costs are paid out of pocket to ensure that 100% of the funds raised go to helping others. From December 5 - 15, Treana and husband Ryan Peake will visit the children from all three orphanages to share the impact of their stories and words and show what it brings to their world. They will assist in the construction of a new child-care center as well as conduct surveys for water sites and other potential projects related to education and health.

The latest single from Dark Horse, “Never Gonna Be Alone,” is already top 15 at Hot A/C and heating up quickly at Top 40. Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter, and producer Richard Marx will release his first new solo recording in nearly three years, Emotional Remains. Joey Moi To Join Chief Music MGMT & UEG

Joey Moi is a renowned engineer, co-producer, mixer, and song-writer, who has worked his way to the top of the music business. A graduate of CDIS School of Digital Engineering and Sound, Joey began his career some 18 years ago, interning at a late night studio where he worked on demos for Nickelback, (some of which he would submit for his school projects).

After graduation, Joey secured a job as an assistant engineer at Vancouver’s famous recording studio Greenhouse. During this time he worked with such artists as Default and Grapes of Wrath. In 2001 Joey jumped at an opportunity to work with Producer Rick Parashar (Pearl Jam, Nickelback, Blind Melon, Three Doors Down) for eight months in Seattle. Joey then returned to Vancouver to co-produce the debut Theory of a Deadman record.

Since then Joey has co-produced all of the Nickelback albums, and has worked in Mountain View Studios with several successful recording artists, including Faber Drive, Hinder, Daughtry, Default, Santana, Tim McGraw, Every Avenue and more.

Joey and business partner Chad Kroeger co-own Mountain View Records and Mountain View Studios in Vancouver BC, which is an Imprint with Sony/BMG for the last 6 years.

UEG adds Producer & Songwriter Division

NEW YORK, NY. Veteran A & R representative, Leonard B. Johnson, has accepted a position to create and head a Producer & Songwriters Division for the Union Entertainment Group, Inc (UEG) . The move reunites Johnson, who spent the last 11 years with TVT Records in New York as Vice President of A&R, with personal manager Bryan Coleman, whose band DEFAULT became a platinum artist under Johnson’s direction at TVT.

UEG’s Coleman said of the latest expansion move by the company, “Lenny’s affable personality and longtime credibility within the A & R community makes him a perfect fit in the UEG family. We are excited for the opportunity of having someone of Lenny’s character and caliber heading up this new venture for us!"

Johnson said that the company will announce clients over the next few weeks but mentioned two producer/writers who won’t be strangers to Grammy voters. Rob Graves, who's current RED record has scanned over 100K units the past 6 weeks and Anders Osborne, who penned Tim McGraw's #1 country hit "Watch The Wind Blow", are among the first to join the Union team.

MODERN WEST, fronted by singer / guitarist Costner, is in the midst of supporting the band’s debut Universal / Republic album, UNTOLD TRUTHS, and the move to the major management company, (Nickelback, Hinder, Red) signals the band’s expansion into the commercial music marketplace. Mr. Big reunites

Original Mr. Big Reunites For Japanese Tour

Finally confirming the rumors that have been circulating the internet for weeks, all four original members of the popular 90's rock supergroup, Mr. Big, are taking to the stage together for the first time in 13 years for a reunion tour of Japan.

The announcement, made by the band before a press packed Hard Rock Cafe in Tokyo this week, brings back promises that the Japanese run will recapture the magic of the original chart-busting foursome: vocalist / frontman Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert, guitar, Billy Sheehan, bass, and Pat Torpey, drums. The tour takes off in Sapporo on June 5 and culminates June 20 in Tokyo with a feature concert at Budokan—the famous Japanese venue known for its rich history of legendary performances by rock's elite. The band will record a live CD / DVD during the Budokan show that will also mark the band's 20 year anniversary!

Formed in 1988, Mr. Big forged its place in hard rock history combining trademark "shredding" mucicianship with awesome vocal harmonies and signed a record deal in 1989 with Atlantic Records. The self-titled album. Mr. Big, received critical and commercial success in the US and Japan but it was the band's second album, Lean Into It, that provided the major breakthrough. Lean Into It, featured two ballads that established the band as a commercial success, "To Be With You and "Just Take My Heart", propelling the band the band to huge international success and record sales in the multi-millions.

Gilbert left the band in 1996 to pursue a solo career and the original members had not shared a stage together until late 2008 at Gilbert solo show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Paul was joined onstage by Sheehan and Torpey to perform a couple of covers songs and the three had such a good time together, they contacted Martin a few days later and the reunion was put into montion.

While no concert dates beyond Japan have been announced as yet, the band is looking at possible dates in Southeast Asia and America later in the year.

Nickelback leads Juno charge with five nominations. The band received nods in the categories of Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Group of the Year and Producer of the Year. It was also revealed that Nickelback, will perform at the Juno Awards broadcast from Vancouver's General Motors Place.

UEG EXPANDS GROUP WITH 3 INDUSTRY VETERANS

Music management firm Union Entertainment Group, Inc, (UEG), home to multi platinum and top-selling rock groups such as Nickelback, Hinder, Candlebox and RED, announced today the addition of three industry veterans to the company: Dave Loncao, Brad Roosa and Kevin “Chief” Zaruk.

Longtime industry promotion specialist and artist co-manger (John Mellencamp), Dave Loncao, joins the company as an experienced manager as well as VP/Promotion. Loncao is best known for his pivotal role in transforming Roadrunner Records from a small metal label into a commercial industry player by beefing up their staff and spearheading the signing of radio friendly acts – most notably Nickelback - as well as directing promotions campaigns for Slipnot, Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman and many others. Loncao will coordinate and quarterback all aspects of the UEG roster's radio and broadcast endeavors as well as managing future signings.

Brad Roosa leaves a long career in the concert promotion industry, most recently with AEG Live, to come on board as UEG’s VP/Touring operations and artist manager. Roosa handled AEG Live’s talent buying and promotions for the Southwest region as well as overseeing four legs of the Nickelback’s ‘All the Right Reasons’ tour for AEG Live. Roosa will now coordinate all aspects of UEG's major touring endeavors as well as overseeing sponsorship acquisition, VIP ticketing platforms / packaging and maximizing all secondary ticketing opportunities. Roosa’s extensive touring background is uniquely positioned to help UEG Artist’s accelerate the growth of their touring fan base and maximize their earnings across all potential touring revenue streams.

Kevin “Chief” Zaruk will join UEG as a manager and brings with him his full management roster, including multi-platinum rocker, Hinder. Zaruk, who has served as Nickelback’s tour manager for 12 years, will remain Vancouver, Canada, based and operate under the UEG umbrella via his current Chief Music Management Company.

Nickelback is currently recording the follow-up to 2005’s massively successful All The Right Reasons with famed rock producer Mutt Lange (AC/DC, Def Leppard) in their homebase of Vancouver, B.C. Candelbox | Into The Sun

Candlebox will be releasing their new album, Into The Sun, today on Silent Majority Group / ILG. The album features the track, "Stand", which is currently climbing up the Active charts. Candlebox's headlining tour will continue until mid September.

Suburban Legends is on tour

Suburban Legends will be on tour, June through August, with Less Than Jake and Goldfinger. Their new album, Let's Be Friends, is scheduled for a June release.

Kessler's debut records, I Know Your Voice, will drop July 8th, on YMA records. The band will be on tour all summer in support of the release.
